Create Your Kraken Account
Begin by visiting the official Kraken website (kraken.com) and select “Sign Up.” You will need to enter your email address, create a strong password including letters, numbers and special characters, and specify your location.
After submitting your information, check your email for a verification link from Kraken. This step ensures your email is valid and you requested account creation. Click the link to verify your email address.
Next, set up additional security by enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) directly during your sign-up or after logging in for the first time.
Personal Profile & Identity Verification
To comply with regulations, you’ll be required to complete your profile by providing personal details such as full name, date of birth, and residential address. Upload government-issued identification and proof of residence documents to verify your identity.
Verification enhances account security and unlocks full features like fiat currency deposits, higher withdrawal limits, and margin trading.
Login Process on Kraken
To log in, go to the Kraken homepage and click “Log In” located in the upper-right corner. You will see fields for email or username and your password.
If you enabled 2FA, you will be prompted to enter the time-sensitive verification code generated by your authenticator app or received via SMS after entering your credentials.
Kraken offers two different mobile apps: the standard Kraken app for casual users and Kraken Pro for advanced traders. Both apps share the same login but provide different user experiences.
Account Lockouts & Recovery
If you forget your password, use the “Forgot Password?” link to initiate the reset process via email. If you lose access to your 2FA device, utilize your backup codes or contact Kraken support promptly.
Always log out after each session to prevent unauthorized access, especially on shared or public computers.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
2FA protects your Kraken account by requiring an additional confirmation on login or sensitive activities. It dramatically reduces the risk of unauthorized access.
Available 2FA methods
- Authenticator apps: Use apps such as Google Authenticator or Authy to generate time-based codes.
- SMS codes: Receive one-time passcodes as text messages to your phone.
To enable 2FA, log in and navigate to the security tab under your account settings. Choose the preferred method and follow instructions to link and verify.
Store backup codes securely offline. In case you lose your phone or authenticator app, these codes let you regain access.
Best 2FA practices
- Prefer authenticator apps over SMS for enhanced security.
- Do not reuse 2FA codes on multiple platforms.
- Regularly review and update your 2FA settings.
Security Best Practices for Kraken Users
Security is critical to protect your funds. Kraken provides a range of options and recommends best practices:
- Use unique strong passwords and change them regularly.
- Enable 2FA for every login and sensitive action.
- Regularly monitor login activity and recent sessions.
- Whitelist IP addresses for added access control.
- Do not share your password, 2FA codes, or recovery keys with anyone.
- Beware of phishing scams and only use official Kraken domains and apps.
- Regularly back up recovery and security codes offline.
For heightened protection, consider using hardware wallets and cold storage, especially for significant holdings.
